EFFECTS OF SOCIAL NETWORK ON STUDENTS
Social
network is said to be very important in
creating and sustaining relationships among youths and students ,However the manner and time in
which the used affect students performance
in our tertiary institution .It is not only affecting this students alone
it further change the initial way communication takes place Sarah Zay of USA said “with the rise of websites
such as face book social networking may be on the verge of replacing traditional
personal interaction for next
generation .Social networking
affect our lives in many ways including
our communication, self expression ,bullying, isolations ;this is to say that the negative effects of
social network overweigh the positive ones and these sites have caused some potential harm to society .The students
become victims of social network more often than anyone else this is because of
the reason that when they are studying or searching for their course material
online ,they get attracted to these
sites to kill the boredom in their study
time diverting their attention from their work. These social network further reduce learning and research capability
,students have started relying more on information accessible easily on
these social networking site and web and these reduce their command of language
and creative writing skills because students mostly use slang
words on the social networking sites ,they start relying on the computer grammar and
check features and keep them doom
upstairs.
In general, note
the over use of social network on daily bases has many negative effect on the
physical and mental health of students making them lethargic and unmotivated to
create contact with people in person .Parents should be on guard whether they
are using it for appropriate time period or not .The peers and teachers should
help students make aware of negative effects and explain what they are losing
in the real world by sticking to these social networking sites.
